Ww1 French Bayonet Wire CutterWw1 french bayonet wire cutterthis is a nice example of the rare accessory bayonet attachment designed to be issued to french assault troops who would be first in the attack on enemy positions. The device fits over the m1886 lebel bayonet and is intended to act as a wire cutter. When the soldier approaches barbed wire he uses the bayonet to pry up a strand and it aligns with the muzzle of the rifle. When a round is fired, it severs the wire. This attachment is in very good condition. There is osme surface rust but no pitting. It is marked with an arsenal marking and some numbers.
