200 Portuguese M16 Wwi Or Possible British HelmetPortuguese wwi m16 or british. Well, she's gone and done it. The divorce is in. I guess the thinning of the herd may haev come a little too late. Oh well, as al bundy once said, case a rum, case a rum. Not that my problems are of any of your concern, but the culling has now become a matter of financial survival, i've got two mortgages to pay now. Waaaa, cry me a river. So, be sure to come back each week and see who goes on the chopping block. It's like abraham and isaac except no one is stopping the sword rfom falling. Also feel free to comment, add ro detract from my description. I'm a collector and not a dealer. If we can learn from each other it'll make this experience all the better. This is an interesting helmet. It could in fact be british or portuguese. This pattern was one of the first steel helmet designs of the modern era. It was commercialy produced in britian early in the war and issued in limited quantities before being banned by high command. One of teh reasons was that they were made of two light a gauge of steel.Another was the fluted bowl. The initial concept of the flutes ewre to deflect shrapnel. Actually it had the opposite effect. The shrapnel owuld hit this and if it didn't go right through it would spin the wearers head right around. hTey were exported to portugal who then deemed them the m16. They were put into use while fighting along side the french. This one is missing the liner but if it did have a liner it would look like a hat that was sewn right into the shell. These liners were very weak and not many examples are left. I've never seen one. This is a very rare and interesting look into early helmet designs. This can be considered one of the very first, right up there with the french m15 and the german m16. It's in very good shape, original paint, no rust or dents. This one has come right out of the collection. I'm also putting up some other very interesting pieces of militaria, uniforms, flags, badges and field gear. Be sure to take a look. And now the fine print. Be sure ot read this. The winning bidder can pay by way of paypal if they choose but i would prefer any other method, money order, certified bank check.
