This is one of the most romantic and heartbreaking images icart created. In this kiss of the motherland, in which a soldier's death is sealed with a touching kiss fo a ghostly beauty dressed as france. Bare breasted, she holds him at the mometn of death. This piece is especially poignant, since it was dedicated to icart's younger brother, raymond, who was killed ni battle at the front. Please reference the etchings of louis icart by schnessel and karmel, pp. 75, 76, and 146. The etching is signed in pencil lower right in the margin louis icart and numbered 117/150.
